Not Meant to Be

Hello Church Family!

I hope you are surviving the heat okay. This time of year seems to be indoor weather... or at least find a cool way to do whatever you are doing. The sun almost feels angry this time of year. And when heat waves come, then also comes the conversation about global warming. "We're all going to die!" That went dark very fast, didn't it?

It also is the season for yellow jackets and wasps. They seem to be unusually numerous this summer. We had a big nest at our house filled with angry flying things attacking anything and everything they could find. Why are they so angry? And will there be wasps in heaven? Seriously, I wish the Bible gave us a list of what is and isn't going to be in heaven.

Within the last week, I also attended two funerals of Christian men who certainly have left the planet with holes of goodness that need to be re-filled. Funerals are such a mixed bag for us Christians. They are so good for those who have left but so hard for those who remain. Death is definitely something that we won't be experiencing in heaven. That much is clear. So if you like funerals, you'd better get your fill now! (Praise the Lord!)

And one more thing that was never meant to be part of the natural order of things: murder. Which is the command we are on this week... the fact that we should never murder. This seems like a no brainer... super simple. The easiest of the Top Ten. And yet the fascination for us humans is endless. It captivates almost all of our stories... our deepest fears.

Can we imagine a world without murder? What would it look like? Better yet, what would it feel like? When we would never get to a point in our relationships where we were that far done with a person... just wanted them out of our lives... out of existence. That is murder, isn't it? And how amazingly destructive this kind of thing is... for those murdered, of course, but maybe even more so for the one who murders. How toxic hate and unforgiveness is to our very souls!

So what would heavenly relationships look like instead? How would we avoid getting to that extreme? Is there a way even now to avoid the road to murder altogether?

Deep thoughts, I know. But something to think about as we gather tomorrow for worship. God is good God who wants good for us. Aren't we thankful for His grace and love and mercy? Shouldn't we focus on good things?

For those online, we will be participating in Communion together. Be ready with your elements toward the end of the service.

Tomorrow after church we will gathering at Idaho Pizza for Lunch with the Pastors. Join us for an informal time of connecting with one another.

Thank you again for being such a great church family! I look forward to seeing you all for worship!

Blessings!
Pastor Brian
