New Sermon Series! Update for March 5th

Hello Church Family!

March is here and with it comes... weird weather! The weather seems more like a roller coaster ride with all the ups and downs. I guess that means that spring is here! Or on its way! Or here!

One thing that is reliable this time of year is that Easter will soon be here. And traditionally in
the church universal, we usually spend a few weeks getting ourselves prepared so that the Easter season is more meaningful. Whether you call that Lent or not is probably based on your upbringing... but either way, this practice is good for us.

Over the next few weeks, we will be in a sermon series called The Cross. The Cross is a normal decoration for Christian sanctuaries... and because it is always there, there is a chance that we don't talk about it as often as we should. Whether we think about it or not, the cross is crucial to our salvation and even how we see God. Our approach toward God becomes much different without it!

Here are a couple questions to get you thinking as we enter into this season: Can you recall a time when your forgiveness of someone cost you something? Do you see the same parallel with Jesus and His forgiveness of us? How has your life been made different by the death of Jesus?

We also have one more week until Faith Promise Weekend! For those who are new with us, there are several parts to this so allow me to try to clear things up. The first part of the weekend is Saturday night, March 11. There are two goals for this night: have fun and raise money! This night we gather together for a silent and live auction. We auction off anything and everything that you donate to the cause. And we use the proceeds from that evening to split evenly between the mission cause of our speaker and our teens upcoming mission trip. This year the speaker is from a Nazarene Compassion Center in Cactus, Texas. This is fun, fundraiser auction and not a cutthroat, get the best deal auction (after all this is a fund raiser!), so bring a friend and enjoy the evening!

Sunday, March 12, is a separate and still very important part of the weekend. This day, our speaker will share twice. The first time in Aubrey Hall during the Sunday School hour (9:30am). This is an interactive time when you can ask questions. Then in the worship service, they will share their presentation about what they do.

The purpose of Sunday morning is to celebrate what God is doing around the world... but also to make a Faith Promise to God on what you feel God is having you give to global missions in the coming year.

Why this is important: as a church family (together), we give a percentage of what you give in tithes to world missions. Our hope is that Faith Promise giving can cover our world missions portion so that we can use the rest for our local mission here in Emmett and the surrounding area.
To sum it up: your faith promise (together) helps us to plan our money, both locally and globally, for the coming year. And that's why we collect the amount promised (together). Hopefully that helps clear up things but in case it didn't, feel free to talk with me (or Jacquelyn or anyone on the Go Team).

They are still collecting auction items. Feel free to be creative!
